The Algerian men’s national handball team is ramping up its preparations for the 2026 Africa Men’s Handball Championship, scheduled to take place in Rwanda from January 21st to 31st. The Algerian Handball Federation announced that a new training camp will be held in Algeria from December 6th to 9th as part of this preparation.
National coach Salah Bouchkriou has called up 17 players for this camp. The squad includes 16 players from the domestic league and one professional player, Ayyoub Ben Ghedour, who plays for Naft Al-Basra in Iraq.
This gathering aims to continue the work that began during the previous training camp held in Algeria from November 22nd to 25th. That camp was considered an important step in enhancing the team’s readiness for the continental tournament. The technical staff are focusing on tactical drills and physical conditioning to ensure the players are in optimal form.
The draw for the 27th edition of the African Championship placed Algeria in Group A, alongside Rwanda (the host nation), Nigeria, and Zambia. The team is aiming for a strong showing in the group stages to secure a favorable position in the knockout rounds.
The tournament also offers qualification slots for the 2027 World Men’s Handball Championship in Germany. Reaching the World Championship is a key objective for the Algerian team, ‘Les Verts’, especially after their impressive performance in the previous edition in Egypt in 2024, where they reached the final before losing to the host nation. Algeria is determined to build on that success.
DZWatch will continue to provide updates on the team’s progress.
