Algiers is positioning itself as a central hub for innovation in Africa, following the fourth edition of the African Conference on Startups. African ministers attending the conference adopted the “Algiers Declaration,” a roadmap designed to bolster African startups and cultivate a thriving environment for innovation across the continent.
The declaration emerged from workshops, meetings, and sessions held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, under the patronage of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. It outlines a vision for an innovative Africa, focused on empowering young African entrepreneurs.
The conference attracted over 200 exhibitors from Africa and beyond, more than 300 international experts, and 35 ministerial delegations. The event served as a platform for African entrepreneurs, incubators, and diaspora members to connect, exchange experiences, and promote entrepreneurship across the continent. It reflects a collective African ambition to establish Algeria as a leading destination for innovation and economic integration.
President Tebboune’s commitment to fostering innovation in Africa was evident in his opening address. He emphasized Algeria’s goal of reaching 20,000 startups by the end of 2029, a vision that extends beyond Algeria’s borders. The President announced the creation of a continental fund to finance African startups, a strategic move aimed at empowering African youth and encouraging countries to adopt policies that promote innovation and create a supportive regulatory environment.
Over three days, officials, ministers, startup representatives, and innovative project owners discussed key strategic areas, including the development of technologies and communication infrastructure, and the support of startups. The ultimate objective is to advance the digital economy across Africa.
