Algerian Handball League Suspended Due to Africa Cup of Nations

Algiers – The Algerian Handball Federation (FAHB) has announced the suspension of the National Handball League Division A (men’s) until February 6th, 2026. This decision comes as the national team prepares to participate in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2026) in Rwanda.

The continental tournament is scheduled to take place from January 21st to January 31st, 2026. The FAHB stated that the suspension is necessary to allow the national team ample time for preparation and to ensure the availability of key players without club commitments.

“This suspension is a crucial step in our preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations,” a spokesperson for the FAHB stated. “We need to provide the national team with the best possible environment to train and compete. Having our players focused solely on the national team during this period is essential for our success.”

The suspension will affect all Division A teams, and the league is expected to resume promptly on February 6th, 2026, following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations. The FAHB has assured clubs that a revised schedule will be released in due course to accommodate the postponed matches.

Algeria will be looking to make a strong showing at the CAN 2026, and the FAHB is confident that this measure will contribute to the team’s chances of success on the continental stage. Handball fans across the country eagerly anticipate the national team’s performance in Rwanda.
