Constantine, Algeria – A significant investment initiative has been unveiled to revitalize Constantine’s historic Old City, aiming to modernize its appearance while preserving its unique architectural identity. The announcement was made by the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, highlighting the project’s importance for the city and the region.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, this undertaking is designed to transform Constantine into a vibrant cultural and tourist hub, fostering social and economic development. The project will focus on restoring key historical sites and upgrading infrastructure within the Old City, ensuring its long-term preservation and appeal to visitors.
As part of the preservation efforts, the Minister, accompanied by the Governor of Constantine, inspected the ongoing restoration work at the Lower Tijaniyya Zawiya, a significant religious site located in the heart of the Old City. Minister Bendouda expressed her admiration for the project and emphasized the importance of preserving this spiritual and cultural landmark as an integral part of the national heritage and human history.
“The preservation of our cultural heritage is paramount,” stated Minister Bendouda. “This investment reflects our commitment to safeguarding Constantine’s rich history and ensuring that it continues to inspire future generations.”
Furthermore, the Minister visited the House of Creativity, touring its various spaces and assessing its current condition. Bendouda advocated for the transformation of this cultural space into a museum dedicated to the history and arts of Constantine, celebrating its diverse artistic and cultural icons. The aim is to create a cultural center accessible to both artists and the public, fostering creativity and promoting the city’s artistic legacy.
