Algiers, December 15, 2025 – Algeria has reiterated its unwavering commitment to spearheading African efforts in the fight against terrorism. This announcement comes as the country actively participates in critical continental consultations aimed at strengthening collaborative strategies.
The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Salama Bakhta Mansouri, inaugurated the African Union’s consultative workshop on the draft Continental Plan of Action for Counter-Terrorism in Africa earlier today. During her opening address, Secretary of State Mansouri emphasized that this workshop aligns with the mandate entrusted to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as the African Union’s leader in combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism.
Mansouri highlighted the initiative’s goal of mobilizing political will at the continental level, solidifying African leadership in counter-terrorism endeavors, and ensuring the inclusion of the continent’s priorities within relevant multilateral frameworks. She stressed that the draft Continental Plan of Action represents a crucial step in formulating a coordinated African response that addresses the evolving nature of current threats while respecting the unique characteristics of the continental context.
“Adopting this plan as a comprehensive reference framework is essential,” Mansouri stated, “It will organize various forms of mobilization in the field of counter-terrorism, thereby enhancing collective effectiveness and preserving African strategic sovereignty.”
The Secretary of State also acknowledged the pivotal role played by both the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) and the Peace and Security Department of the African Union Commission in coordinating continental efforts and supporting the completion of this vital project. Algeria’s continued leadership in this area underscores its dedication to a secure and stable Africa.
