The National Liberation Front (FLN) party has expressed its strong support for the initiative undertaken by members of the People’s National Assembly to introduce a bill criminalizing French colonialism. The party affirms that this move reflects Algeria’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the memory of its generations against attempts at erasure and falsification.
The FLN emphasized that the crimes committed during French colonial rule are not subject to any statute of limitations and remain a stark reminder of the immense sacrifices made by the Algerian people in their pursuit of freedom, independence, and the restoration of national sovereignty.
The party further stated that the proposed law aligns directly with the national policy led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which prioritizes the protection of national memory, the consolidation of national sovereignty, and the defense of Algeria’s history and the dignity of its people through all available legal and political means. It highlighted that criminalizing colonialism, protecting national sovereignty, and defending historical truth, in addition to the role of the People’s National Army as the guardian of the nation, are a collective responsibility of all Algerians. The FLN affirmed its full support for all initiatives and measures that strengthen national identity.
The FLN stressed that safeguarding national sovereignty is an obligation embodied in the performance of the People’s National Army, which forms the cornerstone of the country’s stability and the preservation of its independence. The army is not merely a military force but a symbol of patriotism, a defender of sovereignty, an extension of the sacrifices of the martyrs and veterans, and a shield ensuring Algeria’s continued freedom and independence.
In a related context, the FLN condemned the false allegations circulated by some foreign media outlets regarding Algeria’s alleged involvement in establishing mercenary groups in the Sahel region. The party views these allegations as part of a systematic campaign targeting the Algerian state due to its sovereign and independent stances and its growing role in the region and internationally.
The FLN asserted that these media campaigns coincide with the emergence of a new Algeria as a nation with an independent decision-making process, commanding respect as a reliable partner in regional and international affairs. The People’s National Army remains the cornerstone of this path, a professional republican army with a defensive doctrine and clear mandates to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Any attempt to link it to mercenary practices or external recruitment is considered a serious offense against one of the pillars of the state and a provocation to the will of the Algerian people. The FLN reiterated that the new Algeria is a nation of principles, sovereignty, and independent decision-making, and that the army is its guardian.
