38 Algerian Universities Pursue ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Algiers – Thirty-eight Algerian universities are embarking on a journey to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification, a significant step towards enhancing the quality and governance of higher education in the country. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is spearheading a national program providing technical support to these institutions.

This initiative aims to elevate university performance by improving governance, enhancing the quality of education, and bolstering scientific research. The announcement was made by Omar Haroun, Deputy Director of Evaluation and Quality Assurance at the Ministry, during a scientific awareness meeting held at the National Graduate School of Statistics and Applied Economics in Kolea, Tipaza province. This meeting marked the official launch of the national program dedicated to quality management systems.

According to Haroun, this initial phase will focus on supporting the 38 selected universities. The program will then be gradually expanded to include other universities and institutions within the sector, following a carefully planned schedule that considers each institution’s readiness and the requirements for certification.

The adoption of modern quality management systems is considered a cornerstone for improving university governance and ensuring the quality of academic training and research outcomes. The Ministry is committed to providing continuous and effective support to the participating institutions throughout the project’s implementation, in line with the directives of the Minister of Higher Education.

Professor Toumach Rachid, Director of the National Graduate School of Statistics and Applied Economics, emphasized the importance of actively engaging in the quality improvement process. This aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education’s broader strategic goals, particularly in the areas of governance, quality assurance in education, and scientific research methodologies. He added that hosting the awareness meeting demonstrates the school’s commitment to contributing to the advancement of higher education and research quality, strengthening its position within the national network of graduate schools, and keeping pace with international quality standards and practices.

This scientific awareness day was organized in collaboration between the National Graduate School of Statistics and Applied Economics and the Sub-Directorate of Evaluation and Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Higher Education.
