MIT Nuclear Scientist Found Dead in Apparent Homicide

Authorities are investigating the death of Nuno Loureiro, a professor of nuclear science and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who was found shot in his home near Boston. The discovery was made Monday evening at Loureiro’s residence in the affluent suburb of Brookline.

Loureiro, 47, was transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds but was pronounced dead on Tuesday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is being led by the DA’s office, the Massachusetts State Police, Brookline Police, and MIT Police.

Loureiro’s contributions to the field of nuclear science were significant, and he will be greatly missed.
