Algiers – Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youssef Belmahdi, supervised the periodic meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Fatwa at Dar El Imam in Mohammadia today. The meeting focused on addressing contemporary challenges to religious values.
Minister Belmahdi emphasized that this gathering is part of the committee’s routine meetings, which, in coordination with the ministry’s scientific committee, this time addressed the theme of “Fatwa and Digital Challenges in the Modern Era.” This focus reflects the rapid advancement of modern technologies and the associated transformations in the digital space, along with the challenges posed by so-called new generation wars.
Belmahdi explained that this approach aims to fortify the religious and spiritual sphere and protect national identity by adhering to the national religious reference, and consolidating the values of good speech, moderation, and balance. He also noted that this meeting is part of a series of activities launched by the ministry, particularly the recent meetings that brought together imams and social media activists to discuss the national religious reference.
“The various initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, in cooperation with scholars and imams, contribute to building a national spiritual reservoir that will, God willing, stand as a strong barrier against all attempts to undermine sacred values, national history, or the identity and religious reference of Algerians,” Belmahdi stated.
The Minister highlighted the pivotal role of the scholars and imams present, who are followed by thousands, even tens of thousands, and even millions across various digital platforms. He affirmed that they constitute Algeria’s unified voice, a comprehensive national word inspired by the sacrifices of the martyrs, and adhering to the values of the glorious November Revolution.
The meeting included four scientific lectures: “Digital Fatwa and its Role in Consolidating the National Religious Reference,” “The Dangers of Unregulated Fatwa in Digital Media and its Impact on Intellectual Security,” “Standards and Controls of Fatwa in Modern Digital Means,” and concluded with a lecture on “Promoting the Performance of Ifta and Mechanisms for Accompanying its Leaders.”
