Algeria Honors Literary Excellence with Presidential Award

Prime Minister Sifi Gherib, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided over the inaugural ceremony of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Literature and the Arabic Language today. The event, held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center, coincided with the celebration of World Arabic Language Day.

The ceremony was attended by several government officials, including Professor Saleh Belaid, President of the Higher Council for the Arabic Language, Sheikh Muhammad al-Ma’mun al-Qasimi al-Hassani, Dean of the Grand Mosque of Algiers, as well as a distinguished group of university professors, researchers, intellectuals, and representatives from the literary and scientific communities.

The President’s Prize for Literature and the Arabic Language aims to promote the use of Arabic across various administrative, educational, scientific, cultural, and technological fields. It also seeks to encourage scientific research and literary creativity, and to support translation into Arabic, contributing to the appreciation of scientific and intellectual output and elevating the status of the Arabic language in all aspects of life.

Several researchers and creators were recognized for their outstanding efforts and contributions. In the field of promoting the Arabic language, El-Sedik Boutiouta received the first prize for his research on “Glossary of Satellite Terms and Definitions.” Lakhdar Far won the second prize for his specialized lexicon in the construction, public works, and irrigation sector. The third prize was awarded to Ali Kashroud for his work, “A Guide to the Rules of Orthography.”

In the realm of literature and creativity, Nana Baba Henni won the first prize in the novel category for her novel “Al-Nairiya.” Fatima Gharbi secured the second prize in the poetry category for her poem “Banat al-Jiyad.” The third prize in the short story collection category was awarded to Hafidha Mimi for her collection “Forbidden to Throw Gametes.”

The establishment of this prize reflects the Algerian state’s commitment to the Arabic language as a fundamental pillar of national identity and a central tool in building knowledge and encouraging scientific research and literary creativity. This initiative underscores Algeria’s dedication to preserving and promoting its rich linguistic heritage.
