Algiers – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has announced that the first shipment of iron ore from the Gara Djebilet mine in Tindouf will arrive in Oran by rail at the end of January.
The President made the announcement, highlighting the significance of this milestone for Algeria’s industrial development. The direct rail link between Gara Djebilet and Oran is crucial for streamlining the transportation of iron ore, a key raw material for the country’s steel industry.
“This marks a pivotal moment in our efforts to harness Algeria’s natural resources and strengthen our national economy,” the President stated. “The efficient transport of Gara Djebilet iron ore to Oran will significantly boost our production capacity and reduce our reliance on imports.”
The Gara Djebilet mine is one of Algeria’s largest iron ore deposits, holding the potential to significantly contribute to the nation’s economic growth. The development of the mine and the establishment of the rail link demonstrate the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and promoting domestic production.
The arrival of the first iron ore shipment in Oran is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating jobs and stimulating industrial activity. It also represents a major step forward in Algeria’s efforts to diversify its economy and reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons.
The project is seen as a symbol of Algeria’s ambition to become a major player in the regional steel market. The government hopes that the increased availability of locally sourced iron ore will attract further investment in the steel industry and create new opportunities for Algerian businesses.
The successful completion of the rail link and the commencement of iron ore shipments from Gara Djebilet represent a significant achievement for Algeria’s infrastructure development program.
