Cairo, Egypt – Algeria views the Russia-Africa partnership as a crucial pillar in establishing a more equitable global system, based on equality and rejecting exclusion, according to Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.
Speaking at the opening session of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Cairo, Minister Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to international multilateralism. He emphasized that the Russia-Africa dynamic holds historical significance and promises future cooperation across various sectors.
“Algeria takes pride in this partnership, recognizing its shared history and the current convergence and coordination between Russia and African nations,” Attaf stated. He expressed Algeria’s aspiration to broaden and strengthen cooperation at all levels.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the political alignment between Russia and African countries as a pivotal element in supporting just causes. He recalled Algeria’s hosting of an international conference to criminalize colonialism and its ongoing support for decolonization efforts in Africa, a commitment deeply rooted in its foreign policy.
Addressing security concerns, Attaf commended the renewed African-Russian commitment to prioritizing political solutions in conflict resolution, alongside enhanced cooperation in combating extremism and terrorism. This collaboration, he noted, is vital for regional and international security and stability.
Economically, the Algerian minister welcomed the growing trade volume between Russia and African nations. He stressed the importance of empowering African countries to achieve their sustainable development goals and adapt to global technological advancements, thereby bolstering their economic independence and integration into the global economy.
Attaf also underscored the level of Russia-Africa coordination within international forums, emphasizing its role in promoting peace and prosperity.
