Civil Protection Deploys Mobile Medical Units to Remote Regions

The General Directorate of Civil Protection launched mobile medical units on Sunday targeting residents of remote and isolated areas across the southern and High Plateau provinces. This initiative aligns with the Directorate’s annual program and its commitment to delivering high-quality public services, in coordination with the relevant provincial authorities.

The primary objective is to improve healthcare access for residents in these underserved regions. Due to the vast geographical expanse and logistical challenges, establishing permanent health centers in every locality is not feasible. Furthermore, residents often face difficulties traveling to existing facilities due to long distances and associated costs.

These mobile medical units build upon the success of the “First Responder for Every Family” program, initiated by the General Directorate of Civil Protection in 2010. This program focuses on training citizens in basic first aid through workshops led by specialized doctors, officers, and trainers. The aim is to empower individuals to provide immediate life-saving assistance before professional help arrives. To date, the program has trained approximately 190,000 volunteer first responders.

The medical convoys will operate from December 21st to 25th, covering 21 provinces in the south and High Plateaus, including Beni Abbes, Ouargla, Ouled Djellal, Adrar, Illizi, Djelfa, El Oued, El Bayadh, Bechar, El M’Ghair, Laghouat, Ghardaia, Naama, Timimoun, Touggourt, Djanet, El Menia, In Salah, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Tamanrasset, and In Guezzam.

During their visits, medical teams will offer a range of services, including medical examinations and consultations, providing medication or alternative prescriptions when unavailable, referring critical cases to specialized hospitals, and delivering health advice and guidance on preventing diseases and potential hazards such as carbon monoxide poisoning, waterborne illnesses, tetanus, and rabies.

To ensure the success of this operation, the General Directorate of Civil Protection, in collaboration with local authorities and health directorates, has deployed significant human and material resources. These include medical teams comprised of Civil Protection medical officers, public health doctors, paramedics, and first responders, as well as Civil Protection officers and personnel. Medical ambulances, four-wheel-drive vehicles, a supply of medications and pharmaceuticals, and health awareness materials will also be utilized.

The Civil Protection medical teams efforts are aimed at ensuring that even the most remote communities have access to essential healthcare services.
