Possible Changes to BEM Exam Under Consideration

The Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Sadawi, has announced that the ministry is exploring potential modifications to the Brevet d’Enseignement Moyen (BEM) examination system. These changes could involve exempting students from certain subjects with lower weighting, focusing instead on core subjects with higher coefficients.

The Minister stated that the goal of this initiative is to improve the overall quality of education and streamline the academic process to better align with students’ abilities and future aspirations. He emphasized that the proposed adjustments would allow students to concentrate on essential subjects that prepare them for their desired academic paths in secondary school.

Speaking before members of the Council of the Nation, Sadawi explained that the ministry envisions these measures as part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing education at the middle school level. He assured that the educational process would remain fair and transparent, safeguarding students’ interests and ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.

“Any modifications to the subjects or the method of calculating grades will be implemented according to clear regulations,” the Minister stressed. He also confirmed that national standards would be maintained to guarantee the quality of education and protect the credibility of official examinations.

The ministry aims to foster greater competition among students while simultaneously ensuring a level playing field. The potential changes to the BEM examination reflect an ongoing commitment to educational improvement and student success.
