The United States military has announced a new round of extensive strikes targeting ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) positions throughout Syria. The operation, dubbed ‘Eagle Eye,’ is reportedly a direct response to a December attack that resulted in the deaths of three American personnel.
According to a statement released by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes, which commenced Saturday, are focused on dismantling ISIS infrastructure and eliminating its fighters across various locations within Syria. CENTCOM stated that the operation is a consequence of the terror group’s attack against U.S. and Syrian forces near Palmyra on December 13th.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth initially announced the launch of ‘Operation Eagle Eye’ last month, vowing a decisive military response to the Palmyra attack. He emphasized that the operation aims to neutralize ISIS combatants, destroy their support infrastructure, and eliminate weapons caches.
The U.S. military presence in Syria is primarily concentrated in areas controlled by Kurdish fighters in the north and northeast, as well as at the Al-Tanf base near the Jordanian border. The stated mission of the U.S. forces is to combat ISIS and provide support to its local allies in the region. The renewed strikes signal a continued commitment to this objective.
The situation remains fluid, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
