The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine to Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT). The decision was announced yesterday by FECAFOOT.
According to an official statement released by FECAFOOT, the disciplinary action stems from an investigation into Eto’o’s conduct during the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier match between Morocco and Cameroon. Details regarding the specific nature of the alleged misconduct have not been publicly disclosed by CAF.
FECAFOOT has expressed its reservations regarding the severity and justification of the sanction. The federation stated that the decision “lacks clear reasoning” and raised concerns about the due process followed by CAF’s disciplinary committee. FECAFOOT emphasized the importance of upholding fundamental principles of fair trial within continental football’s governing bodies.
The statement further indicated that Samuel Eto’o intends to appeal the decision through all available legal channels and within the prescribed regulatory timeframes. FECAFOOT reaffirmed its unwavering support for its president and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that principles of disciplinary justice and credibility are respected within African football institutions.
The suspension will prevent Eto’o from participating in any CAF-related activities for the duration of the ban. The fine must also be paid according to CAF regulations.
