Algiers – Prime Minister Sifi Gherib held a meeting with representatives of the National Union of Taxi Drivers, signaling a renewed focus on reforming the taxi sector. The meeting, which took place recently, included the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, as well as the Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation.
The discussions centered on the current state of the taxi industry and explored avenues for its comprehensive reform. Prime Minister Gherib emphasized the importance President Abdelmadjid Tebboune places on the transport sector, recognizing its strategic role within the national system and its vital function in ensuring citizen mobility and the continuity of public service.
Gherib announced the launch of structured workshops with specific timelines to address outstanding professional and social issues within the sector. These workshops aim to reduce accumulated problems and develop practical, sustainable solutions. He expressed confidence in the sector’s future, predicting significant improvements in working conditions for professionals and enhanced public service performance.
“The transport sector is on the cusp of a qualitative leap,” the Prime Minister stated, acknowledging the professionalism of industry stakeholders and their crucial role in maintaining essential services.
The National Union of Taxi Drivers welcomed the meeting, viewing it as a positive step in strengthening trust between state institutions and transport professionals, particularly taxi drivers.
