Algiers, Algeria – Several regions of Algeria are bracing for a period of unstable weather characterized by heavy rainfall, according to the latest forecasts. The national weather service has issued special alerts and warnings, indicating the potential for significant weather disruptions starting Monday and continuing through the middle of the week.
The initial weather advisory highlights the wilayas of Tindouf and Beni Abbes, anticipating thunderstorms with rainfall accumulations potentially reaching 30mm. These conditions are expected to begin in the afternoon and persist into the early hours of Monday.
A subsequent alert forecasts similar rainfall amounts and thunderstorm activity for the wilayas of Adrar and Timimoun. This period of inclement weather is projected to begin in the evening and continue until Monday morning.
Of particular concern is a more severe warning for exceptionally heavy thunderstorms, with rainfall exceeding 80mm in some areas. This heightened alert is in effect from Monday afternoon until Wednesday morning and encompasses the wilayas of Tipaza, Chlef, Mostaganem, Ain Defla, Tissemsilt, Ghilizane, Mascara, Tiaret, and Saida. Residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions.
Furthermore, the wilayas of Tizi Ouzou, Boumerdes, Algiers, Bouira, and Medea are also anticipating substantial thunderstorms with rainfall possibly reaching 40mm, commencing Monday afternoon and lasting until Tuesday morning.
The general weather outlook for Monday indicates widespread thunderstorms across northern regions, with snowfall expected at elevations above 900 meters. Several wilayas, including Algiers, Tipaza, Blida, Boumerdes, Bouira, Medea, and Tizi Ouzou, along with regions in the west and central parts of the country, have been placed under an orange (level 2) alert due to the heavy rainfall.
A yellow (level 1) alert has also been issued for snowfall in the wilayas of Tissemsilt, Tiaret, Djelfa, Laghouat, Tlemcen, Naama, and El Bayadh. Coastal temperatures are expected to range between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius, while inland temperatures will fluctuate between 4 and 13 degrees Celsius.
