Algeria is actively pursuing electrical connectivity with African nations, revealed Energy and Mines Minister Mohamed Arkab during his meeting with Cristina Duarte, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on African Affairs. The discussion, held at the ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday, centered on developmental programs within the energy sector, encompassing electricity production, transmission, and distribution.

Arkab emphasized Algeria’s commitment to fostering electrical ties, especially given its surplus electricity production. The country stands as a leader in electrical coverage, ensuring citizens have reliable access to power. With a remarkable 99% electricity coverage, Algeria meets the energy needs of its people across the nation.

The minister reiterated Algeria’s continuous readiness to enhance and strengthen relationships while supporting African nations. This commitment aligns with the directives of the Algerian President to intensify exchanges and collaborations with African countries.

Arkab highlighted the conducive conditions for achieving these goals, citing the expertise gained through the national company, Sonelgaz. This experience includes the completion of power generation stations, transmission lines, substations, electricity distribution networks, and the manufacturing of equipment within Algeria.

“The efforts of Algeria extend beyond national borders, aiming to support African countries with common interests, particularly in education and capacity-building,” Arkab stated. The nation actively promotes cooperation through institutes and sector-based establishments, fostering competency development, experience exchange, and skill enhancement.
