Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, has summoned Mali’s Ambassador, Mahaman Amadou Maiga, to address the recent developments in Mali. Attaf strongly emphasizes Algeria’s historical contributions to promoting peace, security, and stability in Mali, built on three fundamental principles.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, the first principle underscores Algeria’s steadfast support for Mali’s sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. The second principle reflects Algeria’s deep conviction that peaceful means are the only effective way to ensure enduring peace, security, and stability in Mali.
In line with these principles, national reconciliation, rather than recurring divisions among brothers, remains the optimal method to engage all citizens of Mali without discrimination, favoritism, or exclusion, the statement adds.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assures that the path of national reconciliation will ultimately solidify Mali’s sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity. Referring to the December 13, 2023 statement, Algeria calls on all Malian parties to renew their commitments to implement the peace and reconciliation agreement, fostering permanent and sustainable peace and stability.
Algeria reaffirms to Mali’s Ambassador that recent meetings with leaders of movements signatory to the peace agreement align perfectly with the spirit of the statement. Minister Attaf expresses hope that the Malian government, committed to the agreement, will join Algeria’s efforts to invigorate this path.
