On Monday, the Minister of National Education, Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui, met with trade unions in a participatory session to examine the most prominent issues concerning the sector. In his speech on the occasion, Saadaoui stated that following the issuance of the Basic Law for sector employees, several observations and shortcomings were noted by union organizations, leading to the formation of a national committee to listen to and record these remarks.
The Minister emphasized the necessity of a general session to conclude discussions regarding the Basic Law, noting that the objective remains safeguarding the general interest of the sector through participatory dialogue. He reassured social partners, stating that if a level of consensus is reached, the amended draft of the Basic Law will be adopted and submitted as soon as possible.
He added that the ministry is committed to ensuring the stability of the sector and the well-being of its employees by improving working conditions. He also revealed that the concerns of union organizations have been raised to the Ministry of Labor regarding procedural aspects to align with new provisions in the labor law.
During his address, Saadaoui stressed that despite the recorded observations which will be rectified, the Basic Law represents the government’s implementation of the President of the Republic’s decision to improve the social and professional conditions of sector employees. He further emphasized that the ministry is working to ensure the Basic Law includes provisions that reflect the high level of importance the President of the Republic places on teachers and educators.
