The Algerian Minister of Transport, Mohamed Lahbib Zahana, has announced that the new freight train station in Laghouat, operated by the National Railway Transport Company, is set to be completed by the end of January. During his recent inspection visit to the province, Zahana highlighted that 80% of the construction work is already completed. This station is expected to significantly enhance the region’s economic activity and alleviate the burden on national roads, thereby reducing traffic accidents.

Zahana also noted the success of the recently inaugurated railway line between Laghouat and Boughezoul in the Medea province, which has seen substantial passenger traffic within two months of operation. He emphasized the economic effectiveness of the project, mentioning that the state subsidizes about 50% of the ticket price for each passenger.

Furthermore, during his visit, Zahana launched the first-ever electronic ticketing service at the Laghouat station. This service allows passengers to purchase tickets electronically without needing to physically visit the station, facilitating payment through postal or bank cards.

Additionally, the minister inspected the passenger train station in the municipality of Sidi Makhlouf, located 40 km north of the provincial capital. This inspection is part of the ongoing efforts to improve the transportation infrastructure in the region.
