In a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations, Salah Goudjil, President of the Algerian Council of the Nation, held discussions with Kim Jin-pyo, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and his accompanying delegation. This meeting at the Council’s headquarters on Sunday provided an opportunity to review and appreciate the excellent level of mutual understanding and respect characterizing the Algerian-Korean relationship.

The statement from the Council of the Nation highlighted that the two countries, under the leadership of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, are keen to expand their partnership. The 33-year-long friendship, based on mutual respect, has witnessed considerable growth, particularly since the signing of the Strategic Partnership Declaration in 2006, the first of its kind between Korea and an African country.

Goudjil expressed Algeria’s desire to benefit from Korea’s notable expertise in various fields such as technology, digitalization, renewable energies, higher education, scientific research, and agricultural industry. He emphasized the new investment climate in Algeria, shaped by President Tebboune’s policies and the new investment law, which aims to make Algeria a profitable and secure investment environment.

On his part, Kim Jin-pyo, during his first visit to Algeria, expressed his pride in the revolutionary history of Algeria and the quality of relations with Korea. He recognized Algeria’s strategic position in Africa, making it a gateway for profitable investments and partnerships. He looked forward to enhancing the Korean-African partnership, especially in light of the upcoming Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul.

Furthermore, Kim Jin-pyo reiterated Korea’s readiness to share mutual growth with Algeria, especially in key sectors like digitalization and food security. He admired the reforms in Algeria’s economic directions and the new investment law, which he believes will increase the presence of Korean companies in Algeria. He also expressed his desire to elevate parliamentary relations to the same distinguished level as their bilateral ties.
