Algeria stands as South Korea’s only strategic partner in Africa, affirmed Kim Jin-pyo, the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea. This declaration underscores the significance of Algeria’s role in the African continent from the South Korean perspective. Kim’s statement came during his landmark visit to Algeria, the first by a South Korean parliamentary leader in 13 years, highlighting the deepening bilateral relations. His meeting with Algerian President Tebboune emphasized mutual interests and cooperation on international platforms.

Speaker Kim Jin-pyo noted that Algeria is South Korea’s third-largest trading partner in Africa, with trade volumes reaching unprecedented heights even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This economic collaboration is a testament to the robust and resilient nature of the bilateral relationship. Additionally, Kim applauded the reforms under President Tebboune’s leadership, especially in the manufacturing industries, indicating a new era of growth and prosperity for Algeria.

In a move towards global peace and stability, Kim sought Algeria’s support for the denuclearization of North Korea, aiming to foster peace and prosperity in the Korean Peninsula. He also extended an invitation to President Tebboune to attend the upcoming Korea-Africa Summit in South Korea, set to take place in June, further cementing the diplomatic and strategic ties between the two nations.
