Pakistan Spearheads Diplomacy as Iran-US Nuclear Tensions Hang in the Balance

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif concluded a visit to Turkey on Saturday, while Army Chief General Asim Munir departed Tehran following high-level meetings with senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.

General Munir told dzwatch that Pakistan holds an “unwavering commitment to facilitating a negotiated settlement and promoting peace, stability, and prosperity” across the region. Islamabad-hosted Iran-US talks are expected within days.

Meanwhile, Trump told reporters Friday he may not extend the ceasefire but insisted the naval blockade on Iranian ports would continue, warning renewed strikes if no deal is reached by Wednesday. He added, however, that “good news” had emerged regarding Iran, saying: “I think it’s going to happen.”

Iranian Parliament Speaker Qalibaf flatly rejected US claims, warning that Hormuz Strait will not remain open as long as the blockade persists. Core disagreements remain, including over Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, which Tehran insists will not be transferred abroad.
