Angola’s President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço delivered a landmark address before Algeria’s Parliament, praising the deep-rooted brotherhood between the two nations and honoring President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s continental leadership.
Speaking exclusively to dzwatch, President Lourenço stated: “President Tebboune is the African Union’s champion in combating terrorism and all forms of extremism.”
The Angolan leader credited Algeria for its decisive role in securing Angola’s independence, saying: “Thanks to Algeria’s support, Angola became a sovereign nation. We highly value every assistance provided by the Algerian Republic.”
President Lourenço also highlighted Algeria’s exemplary counterterrorism expertise: “Algeria possesses remarkable experience worthy of admiration for the solutions and knowledge it has contributed in facing serious security challenges.”
He further praised Algeria’s African leadership role, thanking Algiers for granting Angola 8,000 university scholarships and supporting the establishment of the SANANGOL energy institution, while emphasizing that the historic partnership between Sonatrach and Angola’s national oil company transformed Angola’s energy sector strategy.
