Paris – Algerian boxer Iman Khelif (66 kg) advanced to the finals of the boxing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics today, Tuesday, after defeating Thai boxer Jangaim Suwanaping at Roland Garros Stadium in Paris.
With this historic victory, the 25-year-old (2022 World Vice-Champion) secures at least a silver medal, marking Algeria’s second medal at these Olympics, following the gold medal won by Kaïlia Namour in the uneven bars gymnastics event.
Khelif, hailing from the Wilaya of Tiaret, had previously finished fifth in the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021.
In the finals scheduled for Friday, August 9, the Algerian boxer will face the winner of the other semifinal, which pits China’s Yang Liu (World No. 2) against Chinese Taipei’s Hsien Nienshin.
