EU Imports: Algeria Second-Largest Gaseous Gas Supplier

The European Union experienced a notable increase in the value of its energy imports during the second quarter of 2026. Data from Eurostat indicates that the geography of Europe's energy supply remained largely consistent during this period, with specific commodities showing varying trends in value and volume.
Regarding natural gas in its gaseous form, primarily delivered via pipelines, the EU observed an 18.5% increase in import value and a 3.4% rise in volume compared to the monthly average of 2025. In this crucial segment, Norway maintained its leading position, while Algeria emerged as the second-largest supplier to the EU, accounting for 18.2% of these imports. This demonstrates Algeria's continued importance as a direct pipeline gas provider.
In the market for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the EU's import value increased by 4.1%, even as the imported volume saw a 5.6% decrease from the 2025 average. The United States was the primary supplier of LNG, with Russia as the second. Algeria was the third-largest supplier, contributing 8.1% of the EU's total LNG imports during the second quarter of 2026. This diversified supply portfolio underscores Algeria's broad engagement in meeting Europe's energy demands.
