Prime Minister Ghrib Oversees Railway, Water Security Projects

The Algerian government, led by Prime Minister Seifi Ghrib, recently convened to address national market regulation and enhance food security. The meeting focused on implementing a multi-level mechanism centered on anticipation and vigilance to stabilize the market, safeguard purchasing power, ensure the availability of essential agricultural and food products, control commodity flows, and strengthen regulatory oversight across the nation. Crucially, the government affirmed its commitment to supporting farmers through all stages of production and marketing across various agricultural sectors, aiming to boost national output capabilities.

As part of its strategic infrastructure agenda, the government also reviewed preparatory measures for the Al-Mani'a – Ain Salah – Tamanrasset railway project. This initiative has been identified by the President of the Republic as a national priority, emphasizing the need for concentrated efforts to ensure its timely delivery and operational readiness by the end of 2028. This railway is expected to significantly contribute to the country's connectivity and economic development.

Further discussions included updates on projects aimed at strengthening national water security. Among these were the progress of supplementary works to connect the discharge of the El Tarf seawater desalination plant. This connection is designed to optimize the plant's operation and improve the supply of potable water to residents in the wilayas of El Tarf, Annaba, Skikda, and Guelma. Additionally, the government was briefed on the construction of a raw water transfer channel, intended to link the Wadi Djidra Dam with the Ain Dalia Dam, thereby bolstering and securing drinking water access for several municipalities within Souk Ahras province.
