Prime Minister Ghrieb Mandates Local Auto Plastic Production by Year-End
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, commissioned by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, supervised the inauguration of the "General Plastic Injection" unit in Tissemsilt on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The new facility, located in the Khemisti commune and affiliated with the Chemical Specialties Holding Company (ACS), marks a significant step towards bolstering national industrial capabilities. This project aligns with presidential commitments to recover assets confiscated through final judicial rulings and reintegrate them into the national economic circuit, thereby supporting productive investment.
The "General Plastic Injection" factory is equipped to produce 251,000 plastic pieces annually, sufficient to equip approximately 200,000 vehicles. It targets an initial national integration rate of 40%, with plans to increase this to 70% in the future. While a primary focus is on technical plastic components and accessories for the automotive industry, the unit also serves a broad spectrum of other sectors. Its production capabilities extend to supplying components for home appliances, cable manufacturing, refrigerators, air conditioners, medical equipment, packaging materials, household tools, cosmetic products, eyewear, plastic items, drone components, and road signage.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Ghrieb set a firm deadline of the end of the current year for all approved car manufacturers in Algeria to localize the production of plastic spare parts and their molds within this factory. He declared that no plastic parts intended for vehicle assembly would be imported if they could be manufactured domestically. This directive is part of a broader strategy to develop local production chains, raise the level of national integration, curb reliance on imports, and transition towards a genuine industry with added value. The project is also expected to create 300 direct and 500 indirect jobs, stimulating economic and social development in the region.
