Minister Belmehdi Oversees the Launch of the New Academic Year for Quranic Education

Algiers – On Saturday, Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, inaugurated the 2024-2025 academic year for Quranic education at the Rahman Mosque Quranic School in Kouba, Algiers. This year, over 1.2 million students have enrolled in various Quranic education institutions across Algeria.

During the event, Minister Belmehdi highlighted that the enrollment of more than one million students in Quranic education reflects the significant role played by religious institutions in the country, particularly in the spiritual domain, and showcases the state’s ongoing efforts to serve the Holy Quran.

The minister noted that Quranic education in Algeria has achieved “remarkably honorable results” and serves as a “spiritual reservoir” for safeguarding the nation’s religious identity. It also underscores the state’s commitment, along with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, to the service of the Quran.

Belmehdi also announced the introduction of special classes for students with autism spectrum disorders. This initiative, part of the new academic year, will include 450 students. Additionally, 780 individuals with special needs have registered for Quranic studies.

In the same context, the minister mentioned that 380 international students have also enrolled in these institutions. The literacy programs within Quranic schools have attracted over 80,000 participants, both male and female.

The minister further emphasized that the various competitions organized nationwide in celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday saw the recognition of 44,000 participants. Among them, 34,000 competed in Quran memorization contests, with 7,000 students honored as Quran memorizers, including 3,000 who mastered tajweed (the proper pronunciation and recitation of the Quran).

As part of the event, Minister Belmehdi presided over the inauguration of the Rahman Mosque Quranic School in Kouba and the Hamza Ibn Abdul-Muttalib Mosque Quranic School in Draria, where he inspected the facilities and reviewed the learning conditions for the students.
