Shaheed El-Hafed – On Monday, Ibrahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, received a Spanish delegation from the Basque Country and an Italian delegation currently visiting the Sahrawi refugee camps. Both delegations expressed their solidarity and support for the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination.
According to the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS), the meeting took place at the presidential headquarters in Shaheed El-Hafed, within the Sahrawi refugee camps. During his discussions with the Basque delegation, President Ghali expressed his deep gratitude for the unwavering solidarity and support shown by friendship and solidarity associations from the Basque Country towards the Sahrawi cause.
Sahrawi President Updates Delegations on the Latest Developments
President Ghali briefed the Spanish delegation on the latest developments in the Sahrawi struggle and the achievements made on both national and international fronts. He reaffirmed the Sahrawi people’s commitment to continuing their fight for freedom and independence, stressing that they will persevere despite the sacrifices made, especially in light of the ongoing conflict.
The Basque delegation also toured Sahrawi institutions operating within the refugee camps and observed several projects funded by the Basque government, gaining insight into the daily challenges and ongoing efforts within the camps.
Italian Delegation from CISP Visits Refugee Camps
In a parallel meeting, President Ghali hosted a delegation from the International Committee for the Development of Peoples (CISP), led by Alessandro Di Luca. The Italian delegation visited the Sahrawi camps as part of their solidarity efforts and to oversee the launch of a humanitarian project funded by the Italian Agency for International Cooperation. The project focuses on sectors such as health, education, and economic development.
The CISP, one of the oldest non-governmental organizations active in the Sahrawi refugee camps, has maintained a long-standing partnership with the Sahrawi Red Crescent, collaborating on several humanitarian initiatives to support the refugees.
