Escalating Military Action Highlights Tensions in Western Sahara

Bir Lahlou (Liberated Sahrawi Territories) – The Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) launched a series of targeted attacks on Moroccan occupation forces in several locations within the Amgala sector, according to a military communiqué from the SPLA’s Political Affairs Directorate.

The statement, reported by the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS) on Sunday, detailed that advanced SPLA units carried out “intensive and scattered” shelling on Saturday evening. The attacks targeted Moroccan military positions in Amgali Lafik, the headquarters of a regiment stationed behind the defensive sand wall in the Amgala sector, and an additional base in the nearby area of Amgali Harra.

The SPLA statement emphasized that these ongoing operations are inflicting substantial losses in personnel and equipment on Moroccan forces across the length of the “wall of shame” and its support and command sites positioned along its rear.
