Algiers – The Algerian national football team arrived in Malabo on Tuesday evening, where they are preparing to face Equatorial Guinea on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. (Algerian time) at Malabo Stadium. The match marks the fifth round of Group E qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to a statement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF).
The Algerian ambassador to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Abdelhak Aissaoui, along with representatives from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), welcomed the Algerian delegation led by FAF President Walid Saadi upon their arrival at Malabo International Airport.
Following their arrival, the team quickly settled into their hotel, which is located close to the airport. The Algerian squad, led by head coach Vladimir Petkovic, will hold their only training session on Wednesday afternoon at Malabo Stadium. This session will be partially open to the media for a 15-minute photo opportunity.
After four rounds of the qualifiers, Algeria leads Group E with 12 points, followed by Equatorial Guinea with 7 points. Togo holds third place with 2 points, while Liberia sits at the bottom with just 1 point.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the AFCON finals, set to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Additionally, one team from the host nation’s group will secure automatic qualification.
