Algerian National People’s Assembly Participates in Internet Governance Forum in Riyadh

Algiers – Starting Monday, the Algerian National People’s Assembly (APN) will take part in the parliamentary track of the 2024 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was announced in a statement released by the Assembly on Sunday.

According to the statement, the APN delegation includes Hicham Safar, Chairman of the Committee on Legal, Administrative, and Liberties Affairs, and MP Braji El-Wardi. They will represent Algeria at this event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Saudi Shura Council, in partnership with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). The forum runs from December 16 to 18.

The 2024 IGF is held under the theme “Shaping Our Digital Future: Multistakeholder Engagement.” It aims to facilitate discussions on key digital policy issues, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data governance, and digital collaboration. The event emphasizes fostering cooperation among governments, private sector players, civil society organizations, and technical stakeholders.

The parliamentary track is a crucial component of the forum, offering parliamentarians a platform to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities in digital policymaking. It also allows them to interact directly with experts across various sectors, enhancing their ability to develop legislative frameworks and perform oversight roles aligned with rapidly evolving digital demands.
