National Construction Movement Organizes Conference on the 64th Anniversary of the December 11, 1960 Demonstrations

Algiers – The National Construction Movement organized a conference this Sunday in Algiers to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the December 11, 1960 demonstrations and the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (adopted on December 10, 1948).

The event featured contributions from parliamentarians, university professors specializing in law, political science, and international relations, alongside journalists and representatives from civil society organizations.

Participants collectively emphasized that the December 11, 1960 demonstrations served as a “powerful support” for Algeria’s liberation revolution. They demonstrated to colonial France and the world that the “Algerian people were united with their revolution and fully committed to its demands for independence and national sovereignty.”

Speakers also underscored the ongoing importance of “maintaining the cohesion between the Algerian people and their national institutions to thwart any conspiracies or schemes targeting Algeria.” They particularly highlighted actions by entities unsettled by Algeria’s firm stance on issues like decolonization and the right of peoples to self-determination, principles enshrined in United Nations charters.

The conference also praised Algeria’s “pioneering role” on regional, continental, and international stages, as well as the “positive indicators” of the country’s economic progress. Participants called for heightened national awareness to address current challenges, both domestically and globally.
