New York – Algerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Ammar Benjama, has been elected Vice-President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a position that underscores Algeria’s growing prominence on the international stage and its active role within the UN system. This election serves as recognition of Algeria’s steadfast commitment to promoting fair, inclusive, and sustainable development both regionally and globally. Through this leadership position, Algeria aims to champion a balanced development model grounded in social justice, aligned with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s national vision. The role also empowers Algeria to amplify the voices of African and Global South nations, ensuring their interests are represented amidst evolving global challenges while reinforcing the core objective of leaving no one behind in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
