President Tebboune Affirms Algeria is on the Right Path and Calls for Unity Against Attempts to Target It

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed that Algeria is moving firmly on the right path, urging national solidarity and vigilance against parties seeking to undermine the country’s stability and independence. Speaking during his regular media meeting with representatives of national television and radio outlets broadcast on Friday, the President underlined that Algeria’s regained influence regionally and internationally is precisely why it has become the target of hostile actors fearful of its independence of decision-making. He warned against the spread of disinformation aimed at creating doubt among citizens.

Tebboune called on Algerians to remain united and prepared in the face of those who wish harm to the country, particularly through attempts at internal destabilization. He highlighted Algeria’s concrete achievements, notably in the social domain, reminding that one-third of the population benefits from free education, while the state has also ensured allowances for the unemployed. He outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to improve citizens’ living conditions, announcing that starting in 2026, new salary increases will be introduced along with adjustments to unemployment, student, and possibly retirement allowances depending on state capacity.

Addressing the recent government reshuffle, President Tebboune stressed that most ministers are already working within a clear roadmap, noting that the government’s commitments for 2026 and 2027 will be pursued with measurable results, not slogans. He explained that the appointment of Saïfi Ghrib as Prime Minister was made in view of his strong field experience, which will allow him to correct any minister straying from the national roadmap, ensuring coherence in national programming and strategic decisions.

On the agricultural sector, the President expressed confidence in Minister Yacine Mahdi Walid’s ability to modernize and revitalize this key sector using modern technologies essential for Algeria’s food sovereignty and self-sufficiency. He also acknowledged that while nine women are currently part of the government, this number remains insufficient, stressing his commitment to further strengthen the presence of women in executive and leadership positions.

President Tebboune reiterated that freedom of expression is guaranteed in Algeria but clarified that slander and insults have no place in public discourse, affirming that political parties retain unhindered access to the media. Regarding the planned inclusive national dialogue, he stressed that its launch depends on finalizing the modalities, ensuring equal participation for all actors in shaping a strong and democratic Republic.

He voiced disappointment that the Political Parties Law has yet to be passed in Parliament but insisted that dialogue between the state and political groups is essential and must remain constructive. Tebboune also announced that aspects of the electoral law will be revised, including adjustments to the tasks of the Independent National Election Authority, ensuring that upcoming legislative and local elections are conducted on schedule.

The President further noted the importance of digitalization across state structures, reminding that the deadline for this transformation was set for the end of 2025. He firmly stated that decisive measures will be taken against any delays in completing this strategic transition.

This vision reflects Algeria’s determination to safeguard its sovereignty, strengthen national unity, and resist external pressures or interference, particularly from neighboring regimes whose destabilizing agendas—such as Morocco’s persistence in undermining the Sahrawi cause—pose constant challenges to the region’s stability.
