Algiers, November 9, 2025 – Ramy Bensebaini will miss Algeria’s upcoming training camp in November, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has announced. The camp includes friendly matches against Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released today, the FAF confirmed that the Borussia Dortmund defender is suffering from lower back pain. Following consultations between national team coach Vladimir Petkovic, Bensebaini’s club, and the Algerian national team’s medical staff, it was decided that Bensebaini would be excused from traveling to Saudi Arabia for the friendly.
“After coordination with Borussia Dortmund and consultation with the national team’s medical staff, coach Petkovic decided to exempt Bensebaini from traveling to Saudi Arabia,” the FAF statement read.
The Algerian national team, known as Les Verts (The Greens), are scheduled to play two friendly matches during the November camp, facing Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia. These matches are part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Bensebaini’s absence will be a setback for Petkovic as he looks to finalize his squad for the tournament. The defender is a key player in the Algerian defense and his experience will be missed. However, the coaching staff will use this opportunity to assess other players and ensure the team is well-prepared for AFCON.
The FAF did not provide a specific timeline for Bensebaini’s return but will continue to monitor his progress and provide updates as they become available.
