Transportation Overhaul: Addressing Deficiencies in Bus Routes

Algiers, November 9, 2025 – The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, presided over a key meeting at the Ministry headquarters to address critical issues within the transportation sector. The meeting, part of ongoing efforts to monitor and improve ministerial operations, focused on several priority areas.

Minister Saayoud emphasized the importance of the revised Traffic Law, highlighting its potential to enhance road safety and security, aligning with directives issued by the President of the Republic. He also underscored the development of the passenger land transport system as a central focus, recognizing its significant impact on citizens’ daily lives.

The Minister issued instructions aimed at rectifying deficiencies in specific land transport routes, particularly those serving the capital’s suburbs and emerging residential areas and new cities across the country. He directed central land transport authorities to improve coverage on these routes, leveraging public urban and suburban transport entities and expanding rail services. Furthermore, he called for intensified inspection efforts to ensure adherence to schedules, proper reception standards, and cleanliness.

Crucially, Minister Saayoud stressed the need for vigilant monitoring of the import process for new buses intended to modernize the national passenger land transport fleet, adhering to the established timeline.

Modernizing ports and airports remains a high priority for Minister Saayoud. He emphasized the urgent need to accelerate modernization projects at ports, implementing advanced loading and unloading mechanisms at model ports as a precursor to broader adoption. He also advocated for strategic partnerships with international industry leaders to leverage their expertise and achieve professional excellence.

The Minister encouraged strengthened institutional collaboration, particularly with ministries responsible for the environment, renewable energy, and scientific research, to integrate sustainable and eco-friendly technologies within port operations. The meeting also included a review of the progress on the Algiers airport modernization project, with the Minister urging the timely completion of all necessary procedures.
