Tehran – Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Sunday that there is currently “no possibility” of resuming negotiations with the United States. Speaking on the sidelines of a government meeting, Araghchi emphasized that the prospect of talks remains contingent on Washington’s willingness to engage in equitable negotiations.
“When the Americans are prepared to conduct negotiations on an equal footing for both sides, then negotiations could become possible,” Araghchi reportedly said. His comments come amid ongoing speculation regarding potential avenues for de-escalation between the two nations.
The Foreign Minister’s statement arrives after calls from Oman for the resumption of nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran. Oman has previously hosted five rounds of negotiations.
The relationship between Iran and the United States remains strained, with significant disagreements persisting over issues including Iran’s nuclear program and regional influence. Araghchi’s comments suggest that a breakthrough in diplomatic relations is not anticipated in the immediate future. The Iranian government maintains that any future negotiations must be based on mutual respect and a recognition of Iran’s legitimate interests. The US government has yet to respond.
