Goalkeeper Zidane Out Injured, Bouhalfaya Called Up

Algiers – The Algerian national team has been dealt an unexpected blow ahead of its friendly matches against Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia. Goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been ruled out due to injury, prompting a call-up for Zakaria Bouhalfaya.

An official statement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) confirmed that Zidane, the Granada CF goalkeeper, sustained a hamstring injury during training with his club. This injury necessitates a period of rest and rehabilitation, leading to his release from the national team camp.

“Luca Zidane will miss the friendly matches against Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia, scheduled for November 13th and 18th, due to a hamstring injury. He has been permitted to leave the training camp,” the statement read.

In a swift response, the national team coaching staff, led by the head coach, decided to summon Zakaria Bouhalfaya, goalkeeper of the Palestinian Athletic Club, to compensate for Zidane’s sudden absence and ensure squad balance during this important preparatory period.

DZWatch understands that the Algerian national team is preparing intensively for these friendly matches as part of their preparations for upcoming continental commitments. The coaching staff aims to experiment with a wide range of players and solidify the starting lineup ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Bouhalfaya’s inclusion provides an opportunity for the relatively unknown keeper to showcase his talent on the international stage. It remains to be seen whether he will feature in either of the upcoming friendlies.
