Weather Alert: High Winds and Unseasonal Heat Wave Forecast for Algeria

DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria’s national weather service has issued a special bulletin warning of strong winds and unseasonably high temperatures expected to impact the country starting Thursday. The alert covers several coastal regions, urging caution and preparedness.

The weather service forecasts powerful winds along the western and central coastlines, specifically affecting areas including Mostaganem, Ténès, Bouharoun, Algiers, and Dellys. Wind speeds are anticipated to reach levels that could pose a hazard to maritime navigation. Fishermen and boat operators are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution during this period.

A separate warning has been issued for other coastal locations, including Marsa Ben M’Hidi, Ghazaouet, Beni Saf, Oran, Arzew, Mostaganem, Dellys, Azzefoun, and Bejaia, where strong winds are also expected.

In addition to the wind advisory, the weather service predicts a significant rise in temperatures across Algeria, exceeding the seasonal average. Several provinces, particularly in the coastal, western, and central inland regions, are forecast to experience hot weather conditions today, Wednesday.

The southern regions are expected to have mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, with occasional cloud cover in the far south and a possibility of blowing sand in some areas.

Expected temperatures are as follows:

  • Coastal regions: Between 26 and 33 degrees Celsius.
  • Inland regions: Between 20 and 32 degrees Celsius.
  • Southern regions: Between 21 and 36 degrees Celsius.

DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
