Trump Vows Action on Sudan Conflict Following Saudi Request

Washington, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he intends to address the ongoing conflict in Sudan, following a direct request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Speaking at the U.S.-Saudi Business Forum, Trump stated, “I’ve ended eight wars, and resolving the conflict in Sudan wasn’t initially on my agenda. However, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has brought it to my attention.”

He further elaborated, “The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia wants me to do something about Sudan, and within 30 minutes of his request, I began working on the Sudan file.” Trump indicated he would begin “looking into settling the conflict in Sudan.”

The United States has consistently urged both sides of the conflict in Sudan to reach a ceasefire agreement. Just days ago, the U.S. Presidential Envoy to Africa, Mussaad Boulos, described the war in Sudan as “the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.”

Notably, Trump has rarely addressed the Sudan conflict publicly, focusing instead on the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine in what many believe is an effort to secure a Nobel Peace Prize.

The conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023, between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of an estimated 12 million people. The situation continues to deteriorate, creating a dire humanitarian crisis across the region.
