Algeria has voiced its reservations regarding the final statement of the exceptional meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The National News Agency explained that the Algerian delegation expressed its concerns about a paragraph that equates the occupier and the victims of these criminal acts at the same level of responsibility.
During the exceptional meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Algeria condemned the ongoing attacks by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people and reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
The Algerian delegation reaffirmed once again that Algeria strongly condemns the brutal attacks carried out by the Zionist entity against civilians in Palestine, especially the deliberate and barbaric assaults on healthcare facilities in Gaza, in a clear violation of international humanitarian law in the full view of the international community.
In this context, the Algerian delegation emphasized that the denial of the historical and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state within the borders of 1967, with its capital in Jerusalem, is the “main reason behind the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian issue, which threatens the stability of the entire region.”
Algeria also called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to “assume its responsibilities to end this aggression committed by the occupying forces with the support of some other states.”
Furthermore, Algeria urged the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to unify their efforts in making the Palestinian issue a “top priority on the international agenda,” emphasizing that this issue is the core of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s existence.
The Algerian delegation also called for “immediate humanitarian response” by enlisting international and regional organizations to provide assistance to Palestinians who are enduring continuous violations.
During this exceptional ministerial meeting, the Algerian delegation seized the opportunity to highlight President Abdelmajid Tebboune’s personal and enduring commitment to the just Palestinian cause, which is integral to Algerian diplomacy.
It is worth noting that the Algerian delegation participated in the exceptional meeting of the open-ended Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the foreign ministers’ level, which was dedicated to addressing the Zionist military aggressions currently being carried out against the Palestinian people.
