Havana – A top Cuban official has asserted that the nation faces unprecedented threats from the United States and is prepared to defend its sovereignty with unwavering resolve. The statement comes amidst escalating tensions between the two countries and growing concerns over potential US intervention.
Speaking from Havana, the official emphasized that Cuba is experiencing the most severe pressure from Washington in over six decades. He drew a parallel between Cuba’s situation and that of Palestine, stating that Cuba will defend its sovereignty just as the Palestinian people have defended theirs.
“We will not yield to American pressure, even if not a single drop of oil reaches our shores,” the official declared. He accused the United States of actively preventing oil shipments from reaching Cuba and attempting to impose a de facto naval blockade.
The heightened tensions follow recent events in Venezuela, where US intervention led to the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro. Following the events, there have been indications that Cuba could be the next target. Reports suggest the US administration is considering various options to effect regime change in Cuba, including a full naval blockade to cut off oil imports.
Some analysts suggest that disrupting Cuba’s energy supply is viewed as a critical step toward destabilizing the current government. Within certain circles of the US administration, the successful removal of the current government, which has been in power since the 1959 revolution, is seen as inevitable.
The official reiterated Cuba’s commitment to its own path and its determination to resist external interference. “We are prepared to defend our nation and our principles, no matter the cost,” he affirmed. The situation remains tense, with both countries seemingly locked in a standoff, and the future of US-Cuban relations hanging in the balance.
