Land Transport: Intensifying Trips and Extending Working Hours for Ramadan

The National Company for the Management and Operation of Bus Stations in Algeria, “Sogral,” has announced an intensification of daily passenger transport trips and an adjustment of working hours to meet the increasing demand for land transport during the month of Ramadan.

The company revealed in a statement on Monday that a special program has been established, including 2,170 additional trips this week, in anticipation of the rising demand for land passenger transport ahead of the holy month.

The statement explained that this measure follows instructions from the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, aimed at providing transportation and adapting trip schedules to meet citizens’ needs during this period.

In this context, “Sogral,” in coordination with provincial transport directorates and public and private transport companies, has strengthened the trip schedule across various provinces. This includes adjusting the timings of 1,050 daily trips, shifting them to evening and night periods to avoid departures coinciding with Iftar, given the high demand during these times.

The institution has also deployed additional workers by adapting working hours according to the modified schedule to ensure the continuity of services at stations, particularly regarding cleaning, security, and ticket window staff.

In the same context, merchants operating within the stations have been contacted to ensure the provision of essential services before and after Iftar, alongside opening and equipping prayer areas 24 hours a day across various bus stations.

The CEO of “Sogral,” Fares Tzerart, emphasized in a statement the necessity of expanding the use of digital mechanisms to facilitate ticket purchases and electronic payments, calling on passengers to rely on digital services to avoid queues at windows.

The official also ordered station managers to intensify coordination with road safety authorities to organize awareness campaigns on preventing traffic accidents, with the participation of the National Gendarmerie, National Security, and specialized associations.

Furthermore, the company revealed the organization of 33 Iftar tables across several bus stations in coordination with civil society organizations, local authorities, and the Algerian Red Crescent, in addition to organizing neighborhood markets and commercial exhibitions within station spaces.

These spaces will also be used to organize blood donation campaigns in coordination with health services and to accompany medical teams in awareness campaigns for people with chronic diseases regarding fasting during Ramadan.
