New Success for Algerian Judo

The Algerian national judo team, including senior men and women, won the title of the Dakar 2026 International Open after securing 27 medals, consisting of 8 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze, in the competition held in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

In the men’s category, gold medals were awarded to Mounir Ben Yahia (under 60 kg), Kais Moudetir (under 66 kg), Dris Messaoud (under 73 kg), Abdessalam Belbelhout (under 81 kg), Oussama Kabri (under 90 kg), Rayan Zakaria Ben Attia (under 100 kg), and Mohamed El Mehdi Lili (over 100 kg). The sole gold medal for the women’s team was won by Rahma Ghalima (under 48 kg).

Silver medals were earned by Younes Ben Laribi (under 60 kg), Ayoub Ben Laribi (under 73 kg), and Sid Ali Ben Aboura (under 90 kg), as well as Lycia Kabli (under 52 kg), Khadidja Bekhira (under 57 kg), Lydia Kechout (under 78 kg), and Dyhia Benchallal (over 78 kg).

Algerian judokas also secured 12 bronze medals. In the men’s division, these were won by Mouloud Soudani (under 60 kg), Houd Zourdani (under 73 kg), Ahmed Rebahi (under 81 kg), Mohamed Deif (under 90 kg), Lokmane Daroul (under 90 kg), Abdelkader Lakhal (under 100 kg), and Samir Moula (over 100 kg). In the women’s division, bronze medals went to Houria Kaddour (under 48 kg), Nourhane Ghazali (under 57 kg), Donia Brahoul (under 57 kg), Yasmine Djellab (under 63 kg), and Amina Duniazad Rezoug (under 70 kg).

Algeria participated in the tournament with a delegation of 31 athletes, including 20 men and 11 women, making it the most represented nation in the event. It was followed by Senegal with 26 athletes, Angola with 14, and Niger with 13. Other countries, such as Romania, South Africa, Mali, and Benin, participated with only one athlete each.
