Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Murad Adjal, and Chad’s Minister of Water and Energy, Yasali Kanabi Marcelain, signed on Thursday a landmark agreement to construct a 40-megawatt power generation plant in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena.
The agreement, exclusively confirmed to dzwatch, aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision of supporting African countries and elevating South-South cooperation to new heights.
The deal was signed following high-level talks held in Algiers, during which both sides reviewed prospects for energy and renewable energy cooperation, focusing on tangible projects covering electricity production, transmission, distribution, as well as the supply of electrical and gas equipment and technical training.
Minister Adjal told dzwatch that the technical feasibility study for the power plant has already been completed, with Sonelgaz technical teams having traveled to Chad last week. He confirmed both parties are ready to move into the equipment export phase, paving the way for the official groundbreaking of the project.
