Malian Premier Affirms Reconciliation with Algeria

Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga arrived in Algiers for a working visit, leading a significant delegation. Algeria accorded a high-level welcome, with Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, present at Houari-Boumediene International Airport. This reception underscored the importance Algeria placed on the visit, which aimed to consolidate cooperation and historical relations in a spirit of fraternity, good neighborliness, and mutual respect between the two nations.

During his visit, Prime Minister Maïga was received by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, an audience attended by high-ranking Algerian officials. Following the meeting, Maïga conveyed President Assimi Goïta's gratitude to President Tebboune for the invitation to visit Algeria, highlighting it as a mark of affection for the Malian people. Maïga emphasized the shared geography between Mali and Algeria, stating that the two nations would work together for the prosperity of their peoples. He also recalled their common struggle against colonialism for the liberation of the African man, suggesting this shared history forms a strong foundation for current cooperation.

The Malian Prime Minister identified common challenges and noted a shared assessment by the Malian and Algerian heads of state regarding the regional situation. Both leaders expressed a commitment to transforming the region into "a prosperous haven of peace free of terrorism." Crucially, Maïga affirmed that Algeria would "never interfere in the internal affairs of our country," a conviction he stated is also shared by the presidents of Burkina Faso and Niger. This declaration effectively addressed and closed previous concerns, signaling a fraternal attitude from the Alliance of Sahel States towards Algeria and confirming a desire for stability through regional collaboration.
